Our Favorite Way to Make Avocado Toast

One of our most basic meals for breakfast, lunch or dinner is Avocado Toast. I think it's almost silly to write a recipe post on something so simple but there's a few things that everyone should remember when eating Avocados. They're definitely a healthy option with healthy fats but the amount of Avocado you use can change this healthy meal into a high calorie source.

A medium sized avocado weighs about 4-5 ounces and one serving of avocado is about roughly one ounce so before you use an entire avocado be aware that you're about to have 4 or 5 helpings of mostly fats. A one ounce serving of avocado contains 4.5g of fat, 2.5g of carbs 2 of which are fiber, and less than 1 gram of protein. Shay and I usually split our avocados in half and each have roughly 2.5 ounces worth for our Toasts that equals about 118 calories with roughly 11g of fat. For someone who's trying to lose weight, you want to be aware of your fat intake each day. Even though Avocados are healthier natural fats, they are still high in fats and like with everything you should watch your serving size.

For our spread we also like to make it a certain way. We basically make a mini guacamole spread that tastes delicious and is incredibly filling. We use avocado, chopped onions, lemon juice, a dash of cumin, chopped garlic and sliced cherry tomatoes. We always top this onto some high fiber bread because if you're going to be taking in carbs, a high source of fiber is always good to look for. Shay heats up the oven to 425 degrees and sprays our toast with some butter spray (the I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is what we like to reach for) and then adds chopped fresh garlic to make it Garlic Bread. Then while those bake up crisp in the oven, we chop up our Guacamole Avocado Spread and cook up any sides like an egg or a bowl of rolled oats and after about eight minutes we're good to go. It's simple and delicious and it's an easy meal you can't really beat. Just be sure to watch how much of everything you're using and have fun with every recipe. We mix it up with whatever's in the fridge. Sometimes we'll add chopped bell peppers or fresh cilantro and it's always a good time and delicious.
